I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.
[He should have known, really, that this would happen. You can't get close to people when you're about to burn the world down. But doesn't this always happen all too fast? Eren had scarcely entered the cadet corps when he'd started loving them. Comrades, friends, people suffering the same hell, doomed to the same fate, trying to change the world together.
[Aubrey fits that bill well enough now. She'd be safe and well on Paradis if she were someone from his world; he'd make sure of that. After all, she wouldn't have the skill or experience to try chasing after him like the others.
[It's a good thing she doesn't have to live that life. What he hates, though, is this aching at the idea that one day, he'll have to go back, and she won't be there. It's an illogical thought - it's an emotional thought. It's Eren, loving with reckless abandon, an internal switch flipping that says, "You're mine, you're mine, you're mine."
[His arms curl more tightly around her. The wind outside still howls, but under the blankets, it's pleasantly warm.
[He can have this for a little while, whatever it is, Aubrey's memory still filling his veins like a drug. All of his alarm from earlier has faded out. They're safe. He's sure of it.
[There’s a tug-o-war in Aubrey, and it gets stronger as the chill dies down; less brainspace on the cold, all the more to whatever this is. She cannot possibly deny that she cares about Eren, not now, not after everything, and she’s not going to waste energy trying. Instead, what creeps in is a sort of dread, just as useless, but—
[Is a nice memory enough to change his path? She doubts it. He can’t be her responsibility.
[And yet. He sounded so different… and he’s holding her so tightly.... She wouldn’t have shown him that if she didn’t want to help him, too.]
[The wind abates. The storm is back secure in her, then.]
[It’s getting unbearable in here.] H-hey, ah… [Yet she can’t sound as firm as she’d like to.] Is it over…?
[When Aubrey speaks, Eren hesitates, then pulls away from her, arms holding nothing once again. Pushing himself to sit upright, he pulls the blankets off of both of them. The storm is over, and so, too, the moment. Emptiness gnaws at his heart. He fears the moment it will be swallowed again by the void that lives in its place.
[It's time to get himself together.
[Pushing himself up to stand now, he turns away from Aubrey long enough to let his hair down, then put it back up into a new (albeit just as messy) bun. Just like everything else that's happened tonight, it's a very human sight.
[But, all things must return to normal eventually...
[Right?
[He turns to Aubrey.]
Don't over exert yourself with that wound. You can move, but don't be stupid.
It will heal - whether by this world, or on its own.
[It almost sounds as though he's going to leave her, but, then:]

[Silly. Of course it won’t ever be over.]

Where to next?

[Eren might be ready to move on, and Aubrey wants to think she is, too… but it stings, a little, when he lets go. She feels exposed.]
[She watches him fix his hair like she watched him sleep. Her eyes still don’t leave him, even when he turns back.]
[“Don’t be stupid?” Oh, buddy. It’s too late for that.]
[Aubrey knows it, deeper than anything, when she replies (and not without some relief),] Guess we’ll find out.
[“We.”
[They’ll be staying close.]
